Bridal Skincare Tips

Proper bridal skincare is so important, so lets talk about it! Taking good care of your skin before your wedding day is the best way to ensure a beautiful finish to your bridal makeup. In this blog post, I’ll share a few of my top skincare tips for the run up to your big day!

1.Exfoliation is key!

Exfoliation is vital to ensuring a smooth finish to your foundation base. This is because the action of gently exfoliating the skin helps to remove any dead skin or rough texture, as well as helping you get a natural glow! Add this to your routine at least once per week in the run up to your big day – for dry skin types, you may want to do this twice a week if your skin isn’t sensitive. If you don’t currently own a face scrub, you can easily make your own by adding a teaspoon of granulated sugar to your current face wash!

I always recommend a final exfoliation three days before the wedding day to get the best results.

2. Stay hydrated.

I know this step is incredibly boring and you hear it from every health guru on the planet, but it is a very important one. Making sure you are properly hydrated in the months before your wedding day will not only help your overall physical wellbeing, but it also really helps your skin. For those wanting a bit of a natural glow, get drinking (water, of course!)

3. Do not pick your skin!

This step goes against every instinct we have, but please try not to squeeze or pick at any spots you may get within the final week of the wedding day. Almost every bride I have glammed has unexpectedly broken out before their day, it is very normal – especially if you’re a little stressed as the day gets closer!

It’s important to understand that makeup cannot cover texture; think of it like putting paint on a wall. If the wall has bumps or cracks, you will still see that texture, it will just be a different colour. This is the same concept when it comes to foundation application. It is far easier to effectively cover an untouched blemish than a scab – gross, I know. Try your best to leave your skin alone as best you can.

If you’re looking for a great spot treatment that helps reduce blemishes without having to pick your skin, try out the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. I have used it for years and it is fantastic. You can get it at various places online as well as at Boots!

4. No new or unknown treatments within one month of the big day.

This one is quite self-explanatory; don’t book in for any unknown facials or skin treatments that you haven’t had before. This is just in case your skin reacts negatively to the treatment, or worse that you have an allergic reaction to the products used. Trial new skincare regimes well before the wedding and talk to your beautician about your skincare concerns, goals and sensitivities so they can advise you best.

5. No facial waxing or threading within one week of the wedding.

This tip is just in case your skin accidentally gets nipped during the treatment and you end up with a mark or scab. Give yourself a week’s wiggle room before the day for your skin to recover.
